Young robot programmers from 11 regions will travel to Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, in mid-October 2022 to take part in the "Robot Systems Integration" skills competition. The competition is a newly added part of the large-scale "WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition" event, which is taking place at over 15 different venues this year. Teams competing for the title of the best young robot programmer will come from Germany, Austria, France, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Great Britain, India, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan.
In total, the organisers of this year's WorldSkills expect more than 1,100 participants from 57 countries and regions in 61 competition disciplines. Since 2018, the educational organisation WorldSkills International and the world's leading industrial robot manufacturer FANUC have been linked by a global partnership to promote young robot programmers. WorldSkills has been committed to the recognition of qualified professional skills for decades, promoting them through numerous regional competitions. As a major international biennial event, WorldSkills is the culmination of these competitions. FANUC, in turn, brings almost 50 years of experience in the development of industrial robots. More than 840,000 FANUC robots are installed in factories worldwide.
While the trend towards automation is advancing and robots are now widespread, not only in industrial companies and SMEs but even in handicrafts and agriculture, there is a lack of appropriately trained skilled workers in many countries. By partnering with WorldSkills and helping to organise the international Robot Systems Integration competition together with WorldSkills Luxembourg, FANUC aims to give young people the opportunity to learn more about robot programming. The next WorldSkills international championship will take place in Lyon, France, in 2024. A year before that, Gdansk, Poland will host EuroSkills, a vocational education and skills excellence competition for European participants.
