Young robot integrators prove their talent

FANUC and WorldSkills successfully host Championships in Luxembourg

The best young robot integrators in the world come from Germany, Taiwan and Poland. That is the result of the international championship in the professional field of "Robot Systems Integration", which took place in Luxembourg from 17 to 20 October 2022. 11 teams from as many countries competed and put their robot programming skills to the test for four days. The competition was jointly organised by the educational organisation WorldSkills Luxembourg and the robot manufacturer FANUC, which has been a Global Partner of the organisation since 2018.

The German team prevailed in a neck-and-neck race against strong competitors from Taiwan, who took second place. Third place was secured by the team from Poland. The international championship of young robot integrators is part of the major event WorldSkills, which takes place every two years and aims to convince young people all over the world of the benefits of vocational qualifications. In total, more than 1,100 participants from 57 countries and regions are taking part in 61 competition disciplines at this year's "WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition".

At the WorldSkills Championships, participants were confronted with a practical task from warehousing: They had to programme a robot to operate a miniature conveyor belt at a set frequency, taking different components from a magazine and filling them into containers. At the end of the conveyor belt, the robot removed the filled containers and stacked them on top of each other on a pallet. Decisive for winning was not only the speed at which the robot worked, but also a low susceptibility to errors of the system.

The next international WorldSkills championship is scheduled to take place in Lyon, France, in 2024. In 2023, the European Skills Championship is planned in Gdansk, Poland.
