FANUC launches next-generation paint robot for greater flexibility, easier maintenance and future-ready painting operations
Built for manufacturers adapting to changing product requirements while cutting operating costs and downtime, the P‑55/15‑21A suits both automotive and general industry applications.
The six-axis robot supports 0K, 1K and 2K painting systems, enabling users to select the process technology best suited to their application rather than being limited to a specific configuration. With a reach of 2,050 mm and a payload capacity of 15 kg, the robot accommodates large workpieces and a broad range of applicators, including rotary bell cup and atomiser systems.
The ability to configure the P‑55/15‑21A for different painting and coating processes is complemented by a purge enclosure. Located outside the robot, the purge enclosure provides a controlled environment for valve manifolds and other process equipment during colour or coating changes. Rated for ATEX Zone 1, it prevents flammable paint mists and VOC emissions from reaching electrical systems during the purge process.
A key advantage of the P-55/15-21A is its contribution to more flexible paint-line design. Available in both right-hand and left-hand configurations, the robot can be installed on either side of a production line, making it particularly suitable for mirrored or symmetrical layouts. Manufacturers can standardise on a single robot platform while simplifying engineering, software management and spare-part inventories. Additional flexibility is provided through floor, wall, angle and inverted mounting options, allowing paint systems to be configured according to process and space requirements.
The P-55/15-21A is the first FANUC paint robot to feature the new R-50𝑖A controller. Designed to support the future of industrial automation, the controller delivers enhanced cybersecurity in line with IEC 62443 standards, increased processing performance and simplified integration. Its single-cabinet architecture reduces system complexity, helping to shorten installation times and simplify maintenance. Further reducing maintenance requirements, the robot incorporates battery-less encoders that eliminate the need for routine battery replacement, helping manufacturers maximise uptime and lower service costs.
Programming support comes from FANUC PaintTool, dedicated application software that simplifies setup and the creation of paint paths via an extensive library of standard functions.
"Painting operations today require greater flexibility, higher efficiency and the ability to adapt quickly to changing production needs," says Jan Kamenicky, Head of Global & Strategic Accounts at FANUC Europe. "The P-55/15-21A has been designed to give manufacturers the freedom to choose the painting technology that best fits their process, while benefiting from simplified maintenance, flexible installation options and the latest R-50𝑖A robot controller.”
Following its European debut at PaintExpo 2026 in Karlsruhe, Germany, the P-55/15-21A is now available to manufacturers across Europe.
